“Swing Vote” is the movie I watched, and I like it a lot. Usually I won’t spend money and time on a 6.1/10 movie but this movie worth it. The point is that low maybe because of it review so many truth about American politics, and it makes fun of them. Bud is those grown up people who cares nothing about politics, and his daughter is a small girl listen to her teacher’s education — civic duty is important. I think sometimes youth is much better then grown up, because they have a pure heart and pure eyes. Especially on politics issue, which usually involved something bad or dark, Molly’s position is so clear and bright.

The story starts because a swing vote, an imposible situation in US president election — one vote would determine who will be the next president of United States. And this vote would cast 10 days later then all other Americans, which gives candidates a great chance to convince this single man. Connects to what I learned from class, it caused by Electoral College vote system. EC system on one side could reviews political views of Americans from different States, and it actually increase the value of a single vote. Because if not use the EC system, then the chance that a single vote becomes this “Swing Vote” would be 1 out of all registered voters. But because of the EC system, the chance that a single vote becomes this “Swing Vote” would increase to 1 out of all registered voters divided by 50. And this chance is actually even higher, because winner takes all EC votes is the rule in most of the states. This simple math problem makes this movie possible.

After the math problem, this movie gives us a moral question — for those candidates, do they really care about Americans? Or maybe they just cares about this single man. As I learn from class, I know that candidates would cares about those swing states, and do a lot of jobs there. They would claim their position, give speeches, and do whatever things that could help them to get those swing votes. In this movie, “President of United States” used Bud’s favourite driver to invite him to Airforce One, and Mr. Greenleaf uses Bud’s favourite singer to invite him and gives him a ball. It is very interesting that how Molly react with two election campaign leader. A child’s clear eyes point out how fake they are. “You could be a politician, some day…”, it is funny from a 11 years old girl’s mouth. In the real world, candidates uses singer star, and movie stars to help them to advertise them. They are similar ways like in the movie. Just in the movie, the target group narrows to a single man. Those candidates are future presidents, but what they care are only this single vote, what he likes and what is his political view. I think it is criticizing the kind of fake promises when candidates were running the campaign, they care people’s votes, but not people.

This movie not only criticized those candidates, but also US citizens, too. Why the issue could happen? One of the reasons is actually because there are so many people did not vote. The register rates are about 70 percent

these years, if more people gives their idea, maybe Bud’s vote won’t be that important. In the movie, it points this out by a news report. So, I think this movie wants more people to join this event, and be part of it — not only observers. As its release time was 2008, it was a perfect time for this movie’s political idea to be considered. I don’t know if it helps the election last year.

There is some tones I can hear from it. In this movie, centences like “Hopes on a single person”, and “One single man can make changes” show in this movie. In this movie, this single man is Bud. But the real world, this single one would be the new president of US. This new president carries all those hopes from every single Americans. People want to have a president could help them. President Bush helped Americans find safety, that is why he became a president of US. President Obama should help US get out of this economic crisis and make changes of Americans’ life. I believe those candidates would have the same pressure like Bud had at the end of the movie. Their job is to make their promises into reality, but that has never been easy.

This movie released at 2008. It just about one year after this movie from now. And the topic is about presidential election. So, I don’t think there is any changes, and I did not see any changes during this short period. So many years, in my mind and from communism educations, US presidential elections are only about fake promises and attacks against each party. That is not fun, that is waste of time and money. I saw presidential debates last year, President Obama was different. He does not like to waste time on attacking the opponent, instead used more time on debate how to help US, how could make US greener, power independent, and more strong. So, I think the presidential elections are changing. Maybe this change is slow in motion, but it is changing. Hopefully, it would get better and better. Whatever changes made or going to make, as long as it help Americans then they are good changes.
